Land Rover Defender 90 (90-06) driving experience. The Defender uses a slightly less powerful version of the Td5 engine used in the second generation (1998-2005) Land Rover Discovery. It produces 122hp, while 300Nm of torque comes in at 1950rpm. Few performance figures are available, but the Defender feels as if it will accelerate from 0-62mph
Remove the impellee in the airbox, remove ALL the standard TD5 air intake pipe work and replace it with 102mm pipe (largest I could fit) could go smaller if youd like but id keep it at around 3". Less bends and the more direct the better. Finally speak to Alive about a MAF delete or rescale with the hybrid.
So the replacement of a bad Td5 engine can still be less expensive than repair or rebuild of the original unit. In the case of my Defender 110, the route to getting back on the road was clear because of the availability of a known good 15P Td5 engine from a failed Discovery rebuild project. Jan 8, 2016. #7. With enough work, anything is possible, but there'll be quite a few modifications to get the TD5 in and running. The fuel delivery is a little peculiar as the engine needs its fuel delivered at 60 psi so there are two fuel circuits, a low pressure one and a high pressure one. So you'd want to transplant the TD5 fuel pump
